For preliminary works (an individual task) I was offered 2 options: Book Cover or CD Cover.
Before my group and I decided on what we each wanted to do individually we decided to plan a group photoshoot. My group and I decided on a date and a location for that photo shoot that would work for all of us when making our own projects.
The photoshoot went pretty smoothly and it was a very enjoyable experience. We brought heaps of materials, clothes and props. We took hundreds of pictures and and spent many hours trying to capture the right pictures. We are very happy with our results and we're ecstatic for the following photoshoots.
DECIDING ON THE FINAL PICTURE
The next step was obviously going to be a tough one. Deciding on the final picture without a doubt was a very difficult decision to make. At first I wanted to choose this picture of my team mate, Ana. In this picture, I decided to go full-out and just fill her shorts with a bunch of tulle to make it seem as if she was wearing a very colourful and flowy skirt.
I personally felt that this picture had a lot of potential to be turned into a book cover. I experimented with a few apps and tried my best to edit it. The apps I originally tried out were apps like: pics art, facetune, lightroom and Quickshot. But the picture wasn't turning out how I had hoped.
DECIDING ON MAKING A CD COVER
I then found a different picture of my other teammate, Irina. I decided I really liked this picture and that I was going to make it a CD cover. The overall feel of this picture inspired me and helped me decide what my final preliminary work was going to turn out to be like. When I stumbled upon this picture, I decided to do something out of the ordinary with it because the image itself was bland and simple with little to no depth.
I like the contrast between the bright background, the nature and the girl on the chair. This silhouette effect really stood out and brought out a unique distinctive aspect to the image
Finalizing The CD cover
I took a look at a few apps I was familiar with (i.e., PicsArt, Face tune, Lightroom, Prequel, etc.) and changed up the picture completely. First, I made the picture purple, then changed the way the sky looked and added lightning bolts. Next, I changed the quality of it, making it grainy. After that, I started adding text and some depth to it. In my opinion, the image turned out better than I had initially anticipated. I decided to use the word ‘ineffable’ because I like the meaning behind it; “too great or extreme to be explained or described in words.”.
I felt that the word nicely matched the lightning bolts and overall that the picture emitted. Then I translated the word into Japanese and put it in the corner to give the CD cover a more creative and unique design.
When making the back of the cover with the content which includes the song titles I chose all of them to trace back to the photo with a particular meaning. All these song titles correlate with the final picture, and relate to some of my personal favourite songs.
